Oxygen Delivery (DO₂) calculator

Result

924mL/min

Normal (700–1000 mL/min)

CaO₂ = 18.5 mL/dL

0.5 to 15 L/min

4 to 25 g/dL

50 to 100 %

20 to 600 mmHg

How to use it

  1. 1

DO₂ = CO × CaO₂ × 10. CaO₂ from Hgb and SaO₂; CO from SwanGanz or echo.

  2. 2

Normal DO₂ ~1000 mL/min. Tissues extract ~25% (VO₂ ~250 mL/min). Below DO₂ ~400: O₂ extraction becomes critical.

  3. 3

DO₂ below critical threshold. Anaerobic metabolism begins → lactate rises.

When to use it

Septic shock goals
ScvO₂ ≥70% = adequate DO₂ to VO₂ ratio. Guides transfusion vs. inotropes vs. vasopressors.
Optimising haemodynamics
Which lever: CO (fluid/inotrope), Hgb (transfusion), or SaO₂ (ventilation)?
Cardiac surgery
CPB flow targets set to maintain DO₂ >270 mL/min/m².
