Framingham ATP III (Wilson 1998). Use QRISK3 for UK populations.

90 to 200 mmHg

How to use it

  1. 1

Enter demographics and labs. Age, sex, fasting lipid panel. HDL and total cholesterol in mmol/L.

  2. 2

Record BP and treatment status. Treated hypertension adds more points than untreated (same BP) in some versions.

  3. 3

Apply clinical judgement. UK clinical practice prefers QRISK3. Framingham may underestimate risk in South Asian populations.

When to use it

Primary CVD prevention assessment
Identifies patients who benefit from statin therapy (NICE threshold: 10-yr CVD risk ≥10% for primary prevention).
Shared decision-making
Use with patient to illustrate how smoking cessation, BP control, and statins reduce 10-year risk.
Note regional differences
European SCORE uses mortality not events. QRISK3 is preferred in the UK and accounts for ethnicity.

A reference for clinicians and students, not medical advice. A score supports a decision; it does not make one. Check every result against the patient in front of you and your local protocol.
