How to use it

  1. 1

Pre-endoscopy (clinical) score. First 3 items only (age, shock, comorbidity) = pre-endoscopy Rockall (0–7).

  2. 2

Add endoscopic items after OGD. Diagnosis and stigmata complete the score.

  3. 3

    Score 0. ~0.2% rebleed, ~0% mortality — immediate discharge feasible (Blatchford-0 preferred).

When to use it

Upper GI bleeding triage
Rockall + Glasgow-Blatchford together for risk stratification (NICE 2016).
Discharge planning
Clinical Rockall ≤2 + GBS = 0: suitable for outpatient OGD next day.
ICU vs. ward
Full Rockall ≥8: rebleeding >33%, mortality >40%.
