Abstract
Background
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is influenced by benign enlargement, limiting its specificity for malignancy. This study examined transrectal ultrasound (TRUS), PSA and clinical variables among middle-aged Nigerian men.
Methods
A cross-sectional study enrolled 270 men aged 40–60 years in Mainland Lagos. TRUS volumetry and morphology, serum PSA and International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) were assessed. Descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analyses were performed; a score predicting elevated PSA density was internally assessed with 1,000 bootstrap resamples.
