Urine Protein:Creatinine Ratio

2 inputsNephrology

Spot urine proteinuria estimation.

Urine Protein:Creatinine Ratio calculator

Result

0.20g/g (≈ g/day)

Mildly increased (microalbuminuria range)

0 to 20000 mg/L

50 to 20000 mg/L

How to use it

  1. 1

Random spot urine. Morning first-void preferred for CKD monitoring.

  2. 2

PCR ≈ 24h urine protein in g/day. Reasonable correlation in most patients.

  3. 3

Albuminuria vs. proteinuria. ACR preferred for diabetic nephropathy screening; PCR for established proteinuria.

When to use it

CKD monitoring
KDIGO: PCR ≥0.3 g/g (A2) warrants ACEi/ARB regardless of BP.
Nephrotic syndrome
PCR ≥3.5 g/g + hypoalbuminaemia + oedema = nephrotic syndrome.
Glomerulonephritis
PCR trend tracks disease activity and treatment response.
