Abstract
Aim
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of telephone-based education and counselling on stoma adjustment and complication severity in individuals with a colostomy.
Methods
A randomised controlled trial was conducted with patients assigned to the telephone-based education and counselling group (education group) or the control group receiving routine stoma care. Data were collected over a three-month follow-up period using validated measures of stoma adjustment and complication severity.
Results
Baseline characteristics were comparable between the groups. At three months, the education group had significantly higher acceptance and total stoma adjustment scores and significantly lower complication severity scores than the control group. No significant between-group differences were found in anxious preoccupation, social engagement, or anger scores.
