By Santos JFD, Fonseca ABM, Teixeira LD and 4 others.
Abstract
Objectives
to identify factors associated with the occurrence of pressure injuries (PI) in bedridden older adults treated in Primary Health Care (PHC).
Methods
this cross-sectional study was conducted with 63 bedridden older adults. Validated clinical assessment instruments were applied, including physical skin examination, the Braden Scale, the Katz test, and indicators of nursing diagnoses from NANDA-International.
Results
although all presented a risk for pressure injuries, a confirmed diagnosis occurred in 25.4%. The variables most strongly associated were non-intact skin (p<0.001), age spots (p<0.001), erythema (p=0.002), as well as medication use (p=0.024), decreased turgor (p=0.035), excessive moisture (p=0.032), previous history of pressure injuries (p=0.015), and altered sensitivity (p=0.021).
