Core objectives of the wellness and spa philosophy in prenatal care: A holistic framework for pregnant women
By Ирина Петкова - Нешева.
Abstract
Pregnancy is a specific physiological period associated with substantial physical, functional, psychological and adaptive changes. In this context, the Wellness and SPA philosophy should extend beyond isolated recreational procedures and incorporate an individualized, preventive and holistic approach to prenatal well-being. The aim of the present article is to formulate the core objectives of Wellness and SPA philosophy in prenatal care and to propose a conceptual framework for pregnant women with uncomplicated pregnancy. The analysis is based on the author’s previously developed theoretical material concerning physical activity and specialized services for pregnant women, supplemented by selected Bulgarian publications on wellness, SPA services, professional competence, relaxation and lifestyle, and four recent international sources on prenatal physical activity, relaxation and adapted mind-body interventions. Six interconnected objectives are formulated: safety and individualization; physical well-being; psychological and emotional balance; relaxation and stress regulation; healthy lifestyle and health promotion; and social support and quality of life. The proposed framework positions physical activity, relaxation and selected wellness procedures within a broader system of professionally organized prenatal well-being.
