Role of Virechana in the Management of Janusandhigatavata (Osteoarthritis of Knee Joint): A Single Case Study
By Dr. Vyankatramana Hanumaiya Martha and Dr. Deepak Kumar Parida.
Abstract
Janusandhigatavata is the most common form of articular disorder. Although it may begin silently in early adulthood, its occurrence increases significantly with age. When aggravated vata dosha accumulates in the knee joint, it leads to a palpable sensation of air in the knee joints (vatapurnadhrutisparsha), swelling, and painful flexion and extension movements (Prasharana Akunchana Apravruti) in old age due to tissue depletion (dhatukshaya). Virechana alleviates vatadosha and reduces symptoms such as a palpable sensation of air in the knee joints (vatapurnadhrutisparsha), swelling, and painful flexion and extension movements (Prasharana Akunchana Apravruti). Virechana improves digestion and metabolism, which can help reduce the accumulation of toxins.
