Patient Satisfaction with Adjunctive Oral Probiotic Supplementation in the Management of Scalp Seborrheic Dermatitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial
By Faeghe Sheikh Alizadeh Nobar.
Abstract
Introduction
Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory scalp condition causing significant psychosocial distress, while conventional topical treatments often yield high patient dissatisfaction due to recurrence and side effects. Because oral probiotics modulate the gut-skin axis and reduce systemic inflammation, this randomized controlled trial was undertaken to evaluate patient satisfaction with adjunctive oral probiotic supplementation in managing scalp seborrheic dermatitis. Material and methods: This prospective randomized controlled clinical trial conducted at Sina Hospital enrolled sixty-two scalp seborrheic dermatitis patients determined via sample size calculation. Participants were divided into a control group receiving conventional therapy and an intervention group receiving oral probiotics plus conventional therapy to evaluate clinical efficacy and patient satisfaction.
