Histomorphological Significance of BCL-2 and PTEN Expression in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Cross-Sectional Immunohistochemical Study
By Pallavi Agrawal, Mayank Kumar Singh and Olik Padung.
Abstract
Introduction
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) constitutes over 90% of oral cancers globally and poses a major health burden, particularly in India due to lifestyle-related risk factors such as tobacco and betel-quid use. The tumor biology of OSCC involves regulatory genes such as anti-apoptotic genes like BCL-2, BCL-XL, MCL-1 and tumor suppressor genes like PTEN, TP53, NOTCH1 and FAT1 whose dysregulation influences carcinogenesis and tumor progression.
Objectives
To evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of BCL-2 and PTEN in OSCC and correlate their expression with different histological grades.
