Impact of psychiatric medicine, pharmacotherapy, and drug metabolism on depression and emotional regulation in adolescents
By Vishal Dogra and Archana Mishra.
Abstract
Background
Adolescence is this kind of dynamic neurodevelopmental phase, where neural circuits in charge of emotion control, reward processing, executive regulation, stress responsivity and social cognition start maturing a lot. During this time, depression often shows up together with emotional dysregulation, sleep problems , harder thinking, and reduced psychosocial functioning. This review sort of brings together psychological, neurobiological, psychiatric, pharmacological and pharmaco-metabolic lenses, to look at how adolescent depression links to emotional regulation, and there’s a special focus on antidepressant pharmacotherapy plus cytochrome P450 mediated drug metabolism.
