Abstract
Staphylococcus epidermidis and Cutibacterium acnes are two bacteria that cause acne. Papaya peel extract (Carica papaya L.) is used to make anti-acne serum, which contains flavonoid compounds that can stop bacterial growth. The purpose of this study is to find out how well papaya peel extract (Carica papaya L.) inhibits the growth of Cutibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. The antibacterial activity test was carried out using the disk diffusion technique with doses of 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. The results showed inhibition zone sizes of 16.1 mm, 18.8 mm, 21.4 mm, and 23.8 mm for Staphylococcus epidermidis . In addition, the inhibition zone sizes for Cutibacterium acnes were 15.1 mm, 16.3 mm, 17.8 mm, and 19.8 mm. The inhibition test results of the serum were 14.8 mm at a 10% concentration and 16.6 mm at a 15% concentration for S. epidermidis bacteria, and 12.2 mm at a 10% concentration and 13.2 mm at a 15% concentration for C. acnes bacteria. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with a significance value of p<0.05 was used to analyze these test results. This study shows the antibacterial effectiveness of acne serum made from papaya skin extract (Carica papaya L.) against Cutibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis . The effective concentrations were 10% and 15%. In addition, the serum formulation met good requirements for homogeneity, stable viscosity, appropriate pH, and pleasant organoleptic quality.
