Abstract
Background
Diabetes remission has evolved from an infrequently reported clinical observation into an increasingly defined and assessable outcome. Previous bibliometric studies have largely relied on the Web of Science and focused on literature published after 2000, limiting characterization of earlier knowledge foundations and long-term thematic change. This study mapped the global landscape and knowledge evolution of diabetes remission research and examined whether prespecified temporal boundaries were supported by annual publication trends.
Methods
The Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus, and PubMed were searched from database inception to January 30, 2026. After screening, deduplication, and metadata harmonization, 1,554 original articles were included. VOSviewer, CiteSpace, Bibliometrix, and SCImago Graphica were used to analyze publication trends, collaboration networks, journals, authors, keywords, thematic evolution, co-citation clusters, and citation bursts. Segmented Poisson regression was applied to annual publication counts from 1953 to 2025, with prespecified boundaries at 2000 and 2010 and BIC-based breakpoint selection.
