Screen Culture's Association with Generation Z Adolescents' Posture and Well-Being in Egypt: Cross-Sectional Study
By Kora AN and Alshehre YM.
Abstract
Background
Egyptian Generation Z adolescents are heavily engaged with screens for several purposes, including education, entertainment, social media, and gaming. This raises red flags about how screen culture may affect sleep quality, posture-related habits, and health-related quality of life.
Objectives
To examine how different types and amounts of weekday and weekend screen time are associated with symptoms of insomnia, body awareness of postural habits, and health-related quality of life among Egyptian Generation Z adolescents. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional English-language online survey was completed by a self-selected convenience sample of Egyptian adolescents aged 13-18 years from multiple governorates; 530 participants were included in the analysis. Participants reported total screen time, the Insomnia Severity Index, Body Awareness of Postural Habits questionnaire, and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory. Multiple linear regression models were adjusted for age, gender, body mass index, level of education, and place of residence.
