Dietitian-Led Synchronous and Asynchronous Tele-Nutrition in Children With Spinal Muscular Atrophy: A Three-Arm Randomized Controlled Trial
By Muslu M and Gökçay GF.
Abstract
Introduction
Evidence regarding dietitian-led tele-nutrition for children with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) remains limited. This study evaluated the effects of synchronous and asynchronous tele-nutrition on nutrition- and feeding-related problems, anthropometric outcomes, and caregiver quality of life.
Methods
In this three-arm randomized controlled trial, 71 children with SMA and their mothers were randomized to synchronous tele-nutrition (n = 24), asynchronous tele-nutrition (n = 24), or control (n = 23); 66 completed follow-up and were included in the analysis (n = 22 per group). Primary outcomes were the investigator-developed Nutrition-related Problems Score (NPS), Tube Feeding-related Problems Score (TFPS), and Caregiver Feeding Problems Score (CFPS). Secondary outcomes included anthropometric measures, caregiver quality of life, and tele-nutrition satisfaction.
