Abstract
Background
Environmental factors such as air pollution and urban greenness are important in influencing pediatric asthma, yet their individual effects remain unclear across industrial and non-industrial settings. This study examined whether urban greenness modifies the link between air pollution and pediatric asthma in Kaohsiung (industrial) and Taipei (non-industrial), Taiwan, by highlighting differential environmental impacts on children's health.
Methods
Daily pediatric asthma clinic encounters across target age strata were tracked from 111 clinics in Taipei (January 1, 2019-May 31, 2023) and 78 clinics in Kaohsiung (August 1, 2019-May 31, 2023). Multi-variable Poisson generalized additive mixed models evaluated criteria pollutant exposures alongside clinic-surrounding greenness (NDVI) across distributed lag structures.
