Abstract
Introduction
Type 2 diabetes constitutes 90 percent of all diabetes cases, and some polymorphism in the ABCC8 gene, which encodes the ATP-sensitive potassium channel Sur1 protein involved in pancreatic beta cell insulin release, are associated with Type 2 diabetes. Sulfonylurea is used to treat diabetes caused by this metabolic disorder. Recent studies indicate that the rs1799854 and rs1801261 polymorphisms of the ABCC8 gene may be associated with the development of Type 2 diabetes.
Materials and methods
This study was designed as a case-control study. Group 89 included individuals with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), while the control group included 89 individuals determined healthy based on specific criteria. DNA was extracted from the blood, and the rs1799854 and rs1802161 polymorphisms of the ABCC8 gene were analyzed using the RELP-PCR method.
