Abstract
Aim
To examine the mediating role of cardiac self-efficacy in the relationship between patient empowerment and medication adherence among patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and to identify which empowerment sub-dimensions are most prominent.
Design
A cross-sectional correlational study.
Methods
A convenience sample of adults attending a cardiology clinic completed validated versions of the Coronary Artery Disease Empowerment Scale (CADES), Cardiac Self-Efficacy Scale and Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. Data were analysed using Spearman's correlations, ordinal logistic regression and path analysis with bootstrap mediation testing.
