Abstract
People with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have an increased health risk when they consume alcohol in comparison with people without cognitive impairment. Excessive alcohol consumption is an established modifiable risk factor that contributes to the risk of developing dementia.
Within a secondary data analysis of a 2 × 2 randomized controlled trial (RCT) - consisting of a computerized cognitive intervention and a nutrition counseling intervention -, we evaluated the impact of a nutritional counseling group (neither focusing solely on alcohol consumption) on alcohol consumption in people with MCI at a 12-months follow-up, identified predictors of changes in alcohol consumption, and determined whether women benefited in the same way as men.
