Blood Flow Restriction Training in Tendon Disorders and Injuries: A Scoping Review and Evidence Gap Map
By Xiaoyu Wei and Xinwen Liang.
Abstract
Tendon disorders and injuries can cause persistent pain, muscle weakness, and functional limitations. Rehabilitation priorities differ between tendinopathy and tendon rupture, particularly across surgical and non-surgical management pathways. Blood flow restriction (BFR) training has been investigated as a rehabilitation strategy that combines exercise with partial restriction of blood flow, frequently using low external loads. However, its feasibility, safety, clinical outcomes, and implementation across different tendon conditions require clearer synthesis.
