Classification, grading, and automated measurement of dynamic airway collapse during airway endoscopy in children and adults: a scoping review protocol
By Ahmad Makky and Parham Elahi.
Abstract
Scoping review protocol (JBI methodology, PRISMA-ScR) mapping the classification and grading systems, quantitative measurement methods, and automated or artificial intelligence (AI)-based approaches used to characterize dynamic airway collapse during airway endoscopy: drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) for obstructive sleep apnea, and endoscopic evaluation of laryngomalacia, tracheomalacia, tracheobronchomalacia, and excessive dynamic airway collapse. The review will chart how these approaches have been evaluated (reliability, agreement, validity, model performance) and compare the evidence in children with that in adults. It will inform the development of a standardized pediatric grading system for dynamic airway collapse that clinicians can apply directly and that AI can quantify from endoscopic video.
