By Yohel Mendoza Luna, Giancarlo Jossue Yfuma Pedroza and Antonio Hernández Martín.
Abstract
Introduction
The vertical jump is a key factor for success in volleyball, and it is influenced by the contribution of the arms.
Objective
To analyze the arm utilization index (AUI) and vertical jump performance in adolescent volleyball players from Lima, Peru, across two developmental categories (pre-youth and youth).
Methods
A quantitative, descriptive study was conducted with a sample of 17 female players aged 11 to 15 years. Participants were evaluated using countermovement jumps (CMJ) and countermovement jumps with arm swing—also known as Abalakov jumps (ABK)—using a Vald ForceDecks force plate. The AUI was calculated as the percentage difference between the jump height achieved in the CMJ and the ABK.
