Abstract
Background
Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality and remains a significant problem in maternal healthcare services. One factor that may increase the risk of postpartum hemorrhage is prolonged labor. Labor that lasts excessively long can cause uterine muscle fatigue, resulting in ineffective uterine contractions after delivery. This condition may increase the risk of uterine atony, which is one of the causes of postpartum hemorrhage.
Objective
To determine the relationship between prolonged labor and the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage among women giving birth at Sleman Regional General Hospital in 2024.
Methods
This study employed a quantitative method with a retrospective design and a case-control approach. The study population consisted of 246 women who had normal deliveries at Sleman Regional General Hospital in 2024. The sample included 69 respondents: 23 in the case group and 46 in the control group, with a 1:2 ratio. The control group was selected using simple random sampling. Data were obtained from medical records and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test.
