Evolución de los parámetros ecocardiográficos durante la quimioterapia en pacientes con cáncer de mama: estudio longitudinal
By Lisbeth Pérez Menéndez, Dr. C. Julio Alberto Pérez Domínguez, Mábel del Carmen Enoa Alvarez and 2 others.
Abstract
Introduction
Chemotherapy may cause cardiovascular alterations in patients with breast cancer. Echocardiography allows the assessment of structural and functional changes associated with treatment and is an essential tool for monitoring cardiac function.
Objective
To describe and compare the evolution of morphological, functional, and hemodynamic echocardiographic parameters in patients with breast cancer during chemotherapy.
Methods
An observational, prospective, longitudinal study was conducted in 577 patients with breast cancer treated at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial General Hospital, Bayamo, Cuba, between February 2022 and May 2025. Morphological, functional, and hemodynamic echocardiographic variables were assessed. Qualitative variables were expressed as frequencies and percentages; quantitative variables were expressed as means, standard deviations, minimums, and maximums. Differences between means were analyzed using Student's t-test after assessing normality. A p-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
