Abstract
Introduction
Laser ureteroscopy is a minimally invasive endoscopic technique used to treat kidney and ureteral stones without skin incisions. It is increasingly indicated for the management of upper urinary tract stones and is becoming the gold standard for treating kidney and ureteral stones in our department. The objective of this study is to report our experience with laser ureteroscopy in the management of upper urinary tract stones. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in the urology department of the Pr Bocar Sidy Sall University Hospital in Kati, Mali. It was a prospective, descriptive study that took place from December 1, 2023, to December 31, 2025.
Results
We recorded 224 cases of laser ureteroscopy during this period. The average age was 38 years. Renal colic was the main reason for consultation, accounting for 80% of cases. The stone was in the renal pelvis in 28.6% of cases and solitary in 59.4%. Most stones (55%) were between 10 and 20 mm in size. Stones had a density of 1 000 HU in 46% of cases. Flexible laser ureteroscopy was performed in 72% of cases. The success rate was 87.5%, with 12.5% of cases failing and requiring a second session. This rate was 97.8% after the second session.
