A Comparative Study of Intralesional Triamcinolone Acetonide Versus Intralesional Hyaluronidase in Keloid Management
By Gayathri.S.
Abstract
Background
Keloids are abnormal fibroproliferative scars that are often persistent, symptomatic, and cosmetically disfiguring, making effective intralesional therapy an important component of management.
Objective
To compare the clinical efficacy and treatment outcomes of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide versus intralesional hyaluronidase patients presenting with keloid.
Methods
This comparative before and after study was conducted in the dermatology outpatient department of a tertiary care hospital over a period of 18 months. Among 46 adults with clinically diagnosed keloids, 23 patients received intralesional triamcinolone acetonide 40 mg/ml while the remaining 23 patients received intralesional hyaluronidase 1500 IU. Patients were treated at 3-week intervals up to 12 weeks and followed up at 15 weeks, with serial assessment of clinical response using the Vancouver Scar Scale(VSS), Detroit Keloid Scale (DKS), 3-point pain score, and documentation of side effects.
