Improving Scabies Knowledge through the Use of a Science Module among Islamic Boarding School Students in Kepahiang Regency
By Elvida Sari Yunilarosi and Meirita Sari.
Abstract
Purpose
This community service activity aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a science module in improving students’ knowledge of scabies transmission and prevention in Islamic boarding schools.
Method
The activity was conducted at Pondok Tahfidz Mamba’ul Qur’an and Pondok Pesantren Al Munawwaroh in Kepahiang Regency, Bengkulu, Indonesia, involving 50 students. A lecture-based educational intervention supported by a science module was implemented using a one-group pretest–posttest design. Changes in knowledge were analyzed using a paired-samples t-test.
Findings
The mean knowledge score increased from 68.40 before the intervention to 84.20 after the intervention. The difference between pretest and posttest scores was statistically significant (p < 0.05), indicating that the intervention effectively improved students’ understanding of scabies transmission and prevention. Implication: The science module can be used as a practical educational medium to strengthen health literacy and support preventive, hygienic, and healthy behaviors among students in Islamic boarding school environments, particularly in densely populated residential settings.
