Fotobiomodulação na prática fonoaudiológica: uma revisão bibliográfica
By Soraya Elizeu Nunes and Nadine Polido Fernandes Cunha Silveira.
Abstract
Photobiomodulation has gained prominence in speech-language pathology practice due to its therapeutic effects—such as pain reduction, tissue regeneration, and improved muscle function—with applications in areas including orofacial myofunctional disorders, dysphagia, and voice. This study aimed to analyze scientific evidence regarding the use of photobiomodulation in speech-language pathology, highlighting its main applications, benefits, and therapeutic contributions. It is a narrative literature review with a qualitative approach, conducted using the PubMed, BVS, SciELO, and LILACS databases. Thirty-eight articles were identified; of these, 12 met the inclusion criteria and were selected for analysis. The results demonstrated benefits related to pain reduction and improvements in mandibular mobility, muscle performance, and salivary production, also indicating the potential of photobiomodulation as a complementary therapy in various areas of speech-language pathology, including voice. The analysis of the studies allowed for the consolidation and systematization of knowledge regarding its applications, emphasizing the importance of the parameters used and professional training. The study concluded that photobiomodulation has the potential to expand therapeutic options in speech-language pathology, contributing to evidence-based clinical practice, although further research is needed to strengthen the body of knowledge regarding its use.
