Efeitos do treinamento muscular respiratório em pacientes com DPOC: uma revisão de literatura
By Renato Nascimento Araújo, Camila Matias de Almeida Santos and Diala Alves de Sousa.
Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a progressive disease characterized by expiratory flow limitation, whose main symptom is dyspnea, which limits exercise capacity in patients with the disease, resulting in pulmonary functional alterations and muscular skeletal dysfunction. The main risk factor that predisposes the disease is smoking and the senile population is the hardest hit.
Objective
To observe the effects of respiratory muscle training in COPD patients.
Methods
Articles were reviewed using the MEDLINE, SCIELO and LILACS databases, articles published in the last 5 years (2015/2025) in Portuguese and English.
Discussion
The results showed that inspiratory muscle training was more beneficial in individuals with inspiratory muscle weakness, however strength training helped in increasing endurance and muscle strength.
