Abstract
This study aims to analyze how scientific literature characterizes the provision of psychological support to caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease within the framework of Brazilian public policies, focusing on the articulation between the Unified Health System and the Unified Social Assistance System. This is a systematic literature review guided by international review guidelines and structured around the elements of population, concept, and context. The analysis of the selected material indicates that support for family caregivers faces challenges nationwide, with approaches predominantly directed toward the diagnosed individual, thereby limiting targeted mental health actions for the caregiver. Obstacles are also observed in the integration between Primary Health Care and Social Protection, expressed in the limited continuity of care flows between Primary Health Units and social assistance facilities, such as Social Assistance Reference Centers. It is concluded that the provision of psychological support in the public sector tends to occur on an ad hoc basis, suggesting the need to improve the comprehensive support provided to caregivers. The study highlights the relevance of strengthening intersectoral cooperation to consolidate broader care pathways for families and for psychological practice.
