Abstract
Introduction: Obstetric violence is still present in various healthcare services, constituting an important public health problem and a violation of women's rights, especially during the pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum period. This practice can cause physical and psychological impacts on both women and newborns, highlighting the need for more humanized and evidence-based care. General Objective: To analyze the role of nurses in addressing obstetric violence. Methodology: A descriptive and exploratory literature review with a qualitative approach, conducted through searches in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and SciELO, as well as in the LILACS and BDENF databases. Results and Discussion: The findings demonstrated that nurses play a fundamental role in the prevention and management of obstetric violence through welcoming care, active listening, guidance, respect for women's autonomy, and the protection of their rights. The need for professional qualification, continuing education, effective communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration was also highlighted to strengthen humanized practices and reduce violent practices in obstetric care. Final Considerations: It is therefore concluded that the prevention of obstetric violence (OV) depends not only on the individual actions of nurses but also on the involvement of other healthcare professionals in strengthening an institutional culture committed to respecting women's autonomy, dignity, and safety.
