Promises and Problems of Paediatric Digital Radiography in Nigeria: A Commentary
By Flavious Bobuin Nkubli.
Abstract
Abstract Background: Advances in paediatric digital radiography promise improved image quality and enhanced patient radiation protection. However, clinical challenges including overexposures, underexposures, and suboptimal image quality persist despite the availability of proven technical interventions. Consequently, a critical gap remains in translating these safety standards into routine clinical practice within developing healthcare systems.
Objective
To explore the dual realities of promises and operational challenges in paediatric digital radiography within the Nigerian context, and to articulate the imperative for adopting implementation research frameworks. Methods and Materials: A comprehensive review of current literature, quality improvement guidelines, and diagnostic reference paradigms was synthesized alongside anecdotal clinical evidence from the Nigerian radiographic setting to identify systemic execution bottlenecks.
