Abstract
Background
Syncope is a temporary loss of consciousness caused by a sudden decrease in blood flow to the brain, which risks causing injury if not properly managed. Families play a crucial role in providing first aid before further medical treatment.
Objective
To determine the effect of syncope first aid education on increasing the knowledge of patients' families at the Emergency Department (ED) of Kassi Kassi Public Health Center, Makassar.
Methods
A pre-experimental quantitative study using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study population included 77 family members of syncope patients, from which 43 respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a 10-item true-false knowledge questionnaire. The educational intervention was delivered using aleaflets. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test (α = 0.05).
