Early detection of psychosis
By Marie Lagersted-Olsen, Stephen F. Austin, Marlene Buch Pedersen and 1 others.
Abstract
Longer duration of untreated psychosis is associated with poorer outcomes, highlighting the importance of early detection. The recent national mental health plan emphasises improved recognition of early symptoms and faster initiation of evidence-based treatment for psychosis. Clinicians, particularly general practitioners, play a key role and must be attentive to early signs of psychosis. Delays in pathways to care remain a challenge, but improved accessibility, awareness initiatives, and stronger cross-sector collaboration may shorten time to appropriate care and improve prognosis, as argued in this review.
