Radiation doses in different digital radiography systems
By Goran Bajs, Dario Posedel and Frane Mihanović.
Abstract
Introduction
This study evaluates radiation doses associated with computed radiography (CR) and digital radiography (DR) systems during radiographic examinations of the chest, shoulder, and pelvis with hips.
Objective
The aim of this study was to compare entrance surface doses (ESD) between CR and DR systems and to assess the potential of DR technology for radiation dose optimisation.
Methods
The study included 180 participants of both sexes and different ages. ESD was calculated based on data obtained during annual testing of the X-ray equipment performed in 2025. An independent-samples t-test was used to compare CR and DR systems, the Mann–Whitney U test was used to analyse differences between male and female participants, and linear regression analysis was used to assess the association between ESD values obtained with CR and DR systems. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05.
