Clinical Characteristics, Management, and Outcomes of Gastrointestinal Bleeding Among Patients Receiving Antiplatelet Therapy, Anticoagulant Therapy, or Neither: A Retrospective Observational Cohort Study
By Riyad Hossain, Abhisek Chaudhary, Dhruva Narayan K. and 5 others.
Abstract
Background
Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) is a clinically important cause of emergency assessment and hospitalization. Antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapies are widely used for cardiovascular and thromboembolic prevention but may complicate the management of bleeding. Comparing patients receiving these therapies with patients receiving neither can help describe differences in clinical profiles, management, and outcomes.
Objective
To compare the clinical characteristics, management strategies, and outcomes of patients with GIB according to antiplatelet and anticoagulant medication exposure, and to examine factors associated with 28-day all-cause mortality.
