Abstract
Currently, considerable attention is being devoted to identifying the risk factors associated with the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Smoking is a major risk factor that contributes to the development of pathological processes in the lungs, including systemic inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, the production of inflammatory cytokines, increased procoagulant activity, enhanced oncogene expression, and other systemic effects. Proinflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukins (ILs), play an important role in disturbances of hemostasis in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). IL-6 is identified as a principal cytokine involved in activating coagulation processes, whereas TNF-α also affects coagulation, with IL-6 exerting an indirect influence. Furthermore, IL-8 contributes to the regulation of blood coagulation through its effects on the secretion of procoagulant and anticoagulant factors and plasminogen inhibitors.
