Evaluation of the effectiveness of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in osteosarcoma
By Yunusaliyev Javohirbek.
Abstract
This article discusses the role of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in osteosarcoma and contemporary approaches to assessing treatment effectiveness. Osteosarcoma is a primary malignant bone tumor characterized by aggressive growth and metastatic potential. Its treatment commonly combines systemic chemotherapy with surgical resection. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy aims to treat tumor cells before surgery, support treatment planning and address potential micrometastatic disease. Its effectiveness is assessed using magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, clinical evaluation and postoperative histopathological examination. In particular, the percentage of tumor necrosis in the resected specimen is an important measure of pathological response and a prognostic indicator. The article reviews assessment criteria, their advantages and limitations, and opportunities to improve treatment evaluation.
