Secondary Intention Healing Combined with Flap Reconstruction Versus Secondary Intention Healing Alone in Cutaneous Surgery: A Comparative Analysis of Wound Size Changes
By Faeghe Sheikh Alizadeh Nobar.
Abstract
Introduction
While secondary intention healing and local flap reconstruction are standard for cutaneous defects, their combined dimensional kinetics remain poorly understood. Balancing wound contraction with structural stability requires comparative evaluation. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate and compare wound size changes between secondary intention healing combined with flap reconstruction versus secondary intention healing alone in cutaneous surgery. Material and methods: This single-blind randomized trial at Sina Hospital enrolled 20 patients (10 per group via convenience sampling) to compare secondary intention healing combined with local flap reconstruction versus secondary intention healing alone for cutaneous surgical defects, evaluating wound dimensional changes over 12 weeks.
