Therapeutic Efficacy of Oral Probiotics in Mitigating Scalp Desquamation Induced by Seborrheic Dermatitis
By Faeghe Sheikh Alizadeh Nobar.
Abstract
Introduction
Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp is a chronic inflammatory condition driven by microbial dysbiosis and aberrant host immunity. Because conventional topical therapies fail to address systemic drivers, targeting the gut-skin axis through microbial modulation presents a promising alternative. Therefore, this study investigated the therapeutic efficacy of oral probiotics in mitigating scalp desquamation induced by seborrheic dermatitis. Material and methods: This prospective randomized controlled trial conducted at Sina Hospital evaluated sixty-two patients with scalp seborrheic dermatitis. Participants were allocated into a control group receiving standard topical therapy (n=30) and an intervention group receiving adjunctive oral probiotics combined with standard topical treatment (n=32) over an eight-week period to assess clinical desquamation and therapeutic efficacy.
