Abstract
Background
Necrotising fasciitis (NF) is a rapidly progressive, life-threatening soft tissue infection that is difficult to recognise early. The Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotising Fasciitis (LRINEC) score is a proposed adjunct, but its performance varies across populations.
Objective
To describe the clinical profile and management of NF and evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic utility of the LRINEC score.
Methods
In this hospital-based observational study at Government Medical College, Orai, 135 patients aged 15 years and above with clinically suspected NF were enrolled. LRINEC scores were calculated before debridement and patients grouped as <6 or ≥6. Groups were compared using independent-samples t and Chi-square/Fisher’s exact tests; ROC analysis assessed diagnostic (histopathology as reference) and prognostic performance.
