Study of Convergence Insufficiency in School-Going Children at a Tertiary Eye Care Centre: A Retrospective Cross-Sectional Study
By Singh Pragya and Singh.
Abstract
Background
Convergence insufficiency (CI) is a binocular vision disorder associated with headache, eyestrain, and difficulty during near work. Early identification may help improve visual comfort and school-related activities.
Objective
To assess the frequency of CI and describe associated symptoms, clinical signs, and related factors among school-going children attending a tertiary eye care centre.
Methods
This retrospective cross-sectional study reviewed the records of 595 children aged 8–18 years presenting with headache and asthenopia to the outpatient department between December 2021 and November 2022. Children underwent visual acuity testing, orthoptic assessment, cycloplegic refraction, and anterior and posterior segment examinations. CI was diagnosed using single-sign clinical criteria. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression analyses were reported.
