Abstract
Late diagnosis of HIV and syphilis increases morbidity and mortality and sustains transmission. The study therefore aimed to analyse the evidence on social determinants associated with late diagnosis of HIV and syphilis, identifying the main structural, intermediate and psychosocial factors. A literature review guided by PRISMA 2020 was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO and LILACS, with a sample of 17 publications from 2010 to 2024. Late HIV presentation affects more than half of new diagnoses and is associated with low socioeconomic status, low schooling, access barriers, migration and stigma, factors that also limit maternal syphilis screening. It was concluded that late diagnosis is an indicator of structural inequity.
