Abstract
Cervical cancer is a priority public health problem, and adherence to screening is insufficient even among health-trained populations. The study therefore aimed to analyse the knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding the Pap smear among university obstetrics students and to identify factors associated with its uptake. A quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study using the knowledge, attitudes and practices model was conducted, with a sample of 63 obstetrics students. Overall, 93.7% identified the test and human papillomavirus as its cause, 87.3% were interested in receiving information and 90.5% intended to undergo it, but 55.6% had never had the test. It was concluded that there is a gap between knowledge and preventive practice.
