Abstract
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the main agents of nosocomial infection. The study therefore aimed to analyse the prevalence of MRSA in hospital infections in Ecuador between 2015 and 2025 and the current therapeutic options for its management. A literature review was conducted in PubMed, SciELO and Scopus and in the reports of the National Institute of Public Health Research, with a sample of observational studies, surveillance data and clinical guidelines. The proportion of MRSA among hospital isolates fell from 46% in 2014 to 35% in 2017, predominantly in surgical and intensive care services, and vancomycin, linezolid and daptomycin retained their activity. It was concluded that MRSA remains endemic and requires surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship.
