The Relationship Between Functional Movement and Physical Health-Related Quality of Life in Active Adults
By David Kawahata and Duke Biber.
Abstract
Purpose
To examine the relationship between functional movement capacity, cardiovascular capacity, and body composition, and how they relate to health-related quality of life.
Methods
This was a cross-sectional observational study. In total, 123 adults completed the RAND Short Form-36 Health Survey, body composition, a 1.5-mile run, and four functional movement assessments.
Results
Participants classified as functional or advanced function demonstrated significantly higher physical HRQoL than those classified as developing function or limited function across all movement patterns.
Discussion
Functional movement capacity is an important indicator of perceived physical health and may provide a practical assessment tool for identifying individuals who may benefit from targeted exercise interventions.
