Abstract
Background/Objectives: Benralizumab is effective in severe eosinophilic asthma, but real-world evidence on response characteristics and outcomes after switching from other biologics remains limited. This study evaluated one-year clinical, laboratory, and functional outcomes and factors associated with response.
Methods
This single-centre retrospective observational study included 53 adults with severe eosinophilic asthma who reached the week 16 assessment; 40 continued treatment and completed 12 months. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, week 16, and month 12.
Results
At week 16, 40 patients (75.5%) were responders and 13 (24.5%) were non-responders. Among 12-month completers, exacerbations, asthma-related hospitalisations, and systemic corticosteroid courses decreased significantly. Asthma Control Test scores and pulmonary function improved significantly, while blood eosinophil counts decreased markedly. Responders were older and more frequently atopic than non-responders. Improvement did not differ significantly among biologic-naïve patients and those switched from omalizumab or mepolizumab. Five patients (12.5%) met the super-responder criteria.
