Abstract
The national policy known as the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) is designed to accelerate sustainable development and improve the nutritional well-being of students in Indonesia. This study evaluates the tangible contributions of the program toward realizing the targets outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A descriptive qualitative design utilizing a literature review was implemented, analyzing 17 sources published between 2018 and 2026, consisting of 11 scientific journal articles (8 national and 3 international), 4 academic books, and 2 official government documents. The review, conducted in July 2026, demonstrates that the MBG Program successfully advances several key pillars of the SDGs, notably SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The favorable impacts generated encompass elevated student health standards, enhanced academic focus and performance, broader accessibility to nutritious diets, localized economic stimulation through the engagement of farmers and MSMEs, and strengthened cross-sector coordination. Therefore, the MBG Program holds strong potential as a core policy instrument to optimize human resource quality and expedite the attainment of sustainable development agendas nationwide.
