Abstract
Background
Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is an acute, highly contagious and economically important disease. Many PPR outbreaks in sheep and goats in India are unnoticed or are only partially reported because of insufficient mechanisms for animal disease surveillance and reporting.
Methods
Samples were collected at necropsy from 150 goats that died during the study period and 3 mL blood was collected from live goats suspected of respiratory disease. The samples were maintained at -80°C until use and 10% buffered formalin for histopathology. All the tissue and serum samples were processed at IVRI-Mukteswar and IVRI-Izatnagar by using ELISA, RT-PCR, histopathology and Immunohistochemistry.
